LEAP Year & Language programs

Admission Requirements

Age: 18 years of age. Proof of age must be presented at the time of formal registration and placement testing.

Knowledge of English Language: Elementary (minimum 4.0 on IELTS, 69 on TOEFL). Students considering the Leap Year Program must have a minimum of the 5.5 on the IELTS. After completion of level 5(Advanced 1), students may enter a professional program.

Placement Test: Yes, Monday prior to the start date of the course

Application Form: Complete and submit to the CCE

Visa and Permits: Students should obtain all required visas and permits.

 

Acceptance Notification

• International students will receive a receipt for the non-refundable tuition deposit; 3 copies of our letter of acceptance to the program, by post; a pdf of the letter of acceptance by e-mail (which may be used to obtain the Study Permit and CAQ); and an appointment for placement testing.

• International students applying from outside of Canada should contact the nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate in order to determine what steps must be followed to ensure entry into Quebec and Canada for the duration of their studies. Students must arrive at least one week prior to the commencement of classes for their acceptance to be valid.

 

Health and Accident Insurance for International Students

• Immigration Quebec regulations require that all international students be covered by a health insurance plan that meets government standards, while living in Quebec.

• In keeping with government directives, Concordia University has adopted a compulsory health and accident insurance plan that all Concordia international students must have. The cost of the plan will vary depending on the length of studies.

• Please note: Exemptions will only be granted to international students who have a valid Quebec Medicare card or international students who receive a scholarship (including health insurance and tuition fees) from a sponsoring organization or government. Consequently, personal health insurance plans are not accepted by the university

 

International Student Support Services

Concordia International Student Office provides a variety of support to the international students. All students enrolled in the Intensive English Language Program have access to additional resources offered by the University which include Student Services such as Health Services, Counselling & Development services and Recreation and Athletics.

 

INTENSIVE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM

 

Overview

Course Hours: 260 per level

Duration: 10 weeks

Sessions: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer Levels: 6 levels (Elementary to Advanced)

Program Goals:

Prepare students to enter English language universities/colleges

Training for professions requiring a high level of competency in English.

Provide a stimulating, unforgettable and engaging study abroad experience in Canada

 

Integrated Skills Program  

•Students develop skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation

•Students learn in a collaborative classroom environment with two specialized ESL instructors

•Students develop intercultural competency and communicative ability to express themselves with confidence

IELP learning Sports and student Engagement:

• Social activities & field trips organized throughout the session

• Learning support in an after-school study program

• Community-based projects and activities, including volunteering

Class Size: Average of 18 students per class

Demographics: Students coming from over 90 countries

Attendance: Attendance for at least 90% of the course hours is required to proceed to the next level

 

Tuition Fees

 

Tuition Fees are $4625 for a 10 week course. Fees include testing, placement, course pack and social activity fees.

Tuition Fees Payment: Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express), debit card, certified cheque and money order. All payable in Canadian funds.

Other Fees: In addition to tuition fees, students can expect to pay for health insurance, textbooks, dictionaries and supplies.

LEAP YEAR PROGRAM

 

Overview

 

Students begin the Leap Year program in the intensive English Program and then have the opportunity to study in one or more of our Career Professional Diploma programs. The Leap Year Program is a unique English plus program which offers students a 4-term study abroad experience with a two-fold purpose:

• Improve Language Proficiency Skills in English

• Acquire Certification in one or more of our Career Professional Programs:

  • Graphic Applications in Desktop Publishing

  • Marketing

  • Human Resources

  • Business Essentials

  • Entrepreneurship

  • Public Relations

 

Admission Requirements

 

• In order to qualify, students must have a minimum of a 5.5 on the IELTS, or 71-79 on the TOEFL. Students with lower proficiency levels will be unable to complete the language study necessary to cope with the demands of the course work in the Career Professional programs. However, they are welcome to study a full year in English if students choose.

• Upon the successful completion of Advanced 1(level 5), students will be able to enter a Career or Professional Program.

This intensive 3-month diploma in Business Essentials is an introductory program that provides a solid foundation of today’s best business practices and concepts.

Diploma in Human Resources Management

Winter

The diploma in Human Resources Management offers both current and aspiring human resource professionals an opportunity professionals an opportunity to enhance their career development y focusing on best and latest industry practices, as well as the requisite conceptual, analytical and theoretical tools. Human Resource managers and specialists face continuous challenges as organizations rapidly adapt to technological and economic evolution.

Diploma in Entrepreneurship

Fall

The intensive 3-month Diploma in Entrepreneurship is aimed at the growing market of entrepreneurs seeking skills development related to: the start-up, management, marketing, financing and ultimate growth of their respective business concepts, as well as developing competencies toward the eventual creation of the Business Plan.

 

Students who complete this diploma will graduate with a bank-ready documents that may also be employed as a user manual for the student’s real new business venture.

The intensive 3-month Diploma in Marketing provides both aspiring and current marketing professionals and entrepreneurs an opportunity to: explore up-to-date changes in marketing theory and practice, examine foundational, analytical and conceptual tools that are common to all business.

Diploma in Graphic Applications in Desktop Publishing

Fall/

Winter/Spring

The 240-hour Diploma in Graphic Applications in Desktop Publishing is for students interested in acquiring the software skills to master software such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and InDesign. Students will also learn to apply their acquired software skills to render graphic designs that successfully respond to client requirements.

Diploma in Public Relations

Fall/Spring

The Diploma in Public Relations is for students interested in acquiring the skills required to become an effective public relations practitioner. The diploma will cover oral and written communication skills within a variety of media while also teaching students the technical skills needed to use the most common software tools in the public relations industry. The diploma will also introduce students to the fundamental business practices and principles of public relations.

 

Tuition Fees

 

Tuition Fees are $4625 for a 10 week course or $20,000 for 4 sessions of the Leap Year Program

Tuition Fees includes testing, placement and a Student Course Pack and activity fee for the Intensive English program

All fees (the balance of tuition fees and medical insurance) must be paid in full at the time of formal registration and placement testing, held one week prior to the commencement of classes.
